In August 1993, after agreements with the headteacher, Mrs. Val Poynton, and the governors of Reddicap Heath Infant School, Hollyfield Nursery was opened.
As time went on it became obvious that further accommodation was needed. This was due in some part to the introduction of the Nursery Education Grant for four year olds. In January 1997, Hollyfield Nursery started to use a second mobile classroom which was situated across the school car park.
Many children passed through the nursery, including some with special needs. The mobile classrooms had no facilities for disabled people. It was apparent that this issue would have to be addressed to come into line with the Disability Act 2004. An ambitious project was embarked upon to provide a new nursery with excellent facilities for ALL.
Funding was found from the New Opportunities Fund and the L.E.A. It was decided to pull down the old and build the new! The work began in October 2003 with the demolition of the mobile classrooms. By September 2004 the building was nearly complete. November 2004 saw all the staff moving in the furniture and toys for the children.
The official opening of the building took place on Saturday 26th February 2005 and was attended by Andrew Mitchell M.P for Sutton Coldfield.
